AZUSA, Calif.-- No. 16 Azusa Pacific swept Point Loma for the second time this season with a 7-0 win on Saturday morning. The Cougars now advance to a 14-4 overall record and extend their winning streak to seven matches.
In proper fashion,
Miha Velicki and
Elias Emilio Walter swept their Doubles match 6-0 on Court No. 2.
In a tough rally on Court No. 3,
Sam Sippel and
Ethan Smith fell to Point Loma 7-5 but
Ryan Nuno and
Leyton Bohren clinched the doubles point for the Cougars after winning in a tiebreaker (7-6 (7-5)). The duo, who is currently ranked No. 28 in the nation, improved their Doubles record to 14-4.
In Singles, the Cougars won every set across all six players.
Fresh off a Doubles sweep, Walter quickly took down his opponent 6-0, 6-3 on Court No. 4. He now holds a Singles record of 11-5.
Following Walter in straight sets were Sippel on Court No. 2 (6-4, 6-4), who also moved to an 11-5 overall record, and Velicki on Court No. 6 (6-4, 6-2) who improved to 10-6 this season.
No. 9 ranked Nuno captured the victory over No. 36 ranked Tyler Davis (6-4, 6-4) on Court No. 1 to extend his Singles record to 11-4.
Bohren held it down on Court No. 3 with a straight set win followed by Ivan Hornung who captured the last point of the match on Court No. 5 after a 7-6 tiebreaker (9-7) followed by a 6-2 second set.Â
Up Next: The men will travel north to Fresno Pacific University to face off for their second to last game before the PacWest Championship Tournament. The game against the Sunbirds will take place at 1:00pm on Friday.
