Cougars fall to Wildcats

Azusa Pacific fell to Division I Weber State by a match score of 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Azusa, Calif - Azusa Pacific faced Division I Weber State on Wednesday afternoon in Azusa. This was the first time this season that the Cougars faced a Division I opponent as they fell to the Wildcats via a match score of 4-3.

How it Happened - To open the match, the Cougars' #1 doubles of Leyton Bohren and Ryan Nuno completed a victory against opponents Elyse Marouani and Tristin Sarap, taking the set 7-6. The Cougars' #2 doubles followed suit, claiming another victory over opponents Sebastian Buxman and Jordan Coutinho via score 6-4. With these two set victories, the Cougars took the doubles point to go up 1-0 in the match. 

Wednesday's match marked the seventh time this season that Azusa Pacific has won the doubles point out of its eight matches played thus far. 

On court #2, Leyton Bohren gave the Cougars the match lead by way of win in which his opponent retired prior to the third set. Bohren fell in the first, but bounced back with a 6-3 second set victory. Weber State would take its second singles pojnt on court #1 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory by Buxman. The Wildcats would tie the match score at 2-2 with a straight set victory by Marouani (6-4, 6-3) at #3. Ivan Hornung defeated his opponent on court #4 via two set scores of 6-4 allowing the Cougars to go back up in the match 3-2, but Weber State went on to take the last two single sets to complete the match victory. 

Up Next: The Cougars next match will be Wednesday, March 10, when they host Michigan Tech at 2:30 pm in Azusa.
