LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Azusa Pacific track & field sent a few javelin throwers and its distance squad to the Bob Larsen Distance Invitational (hosted by UCLA) on Friday, and the Cougars wrapped up the day of competition with several provisional marks, highlighted by a record-breaking performance on the men's side.

Ayrton Ledesma broke the Azusa Pacific school record in the men's 3K steeplechase, as he ran a personal-best time of 8:51.69, which is also the fastest race in the nation entering this weekend. Ledesma's performance broke the record which was held by his teammate, Nixon Korir, who set the school record last season at the Last Chance Meet with a time of 9:00.1. Korir also ran in the steeplechase today, meeting the provisional standard with a time of 9:09.10 in his first steeplechase of the season.Â

For the men's team, Josh Velasco also hit a provisional time at the Bob Larsen. In the 10K, Velasco ran a personal-record time of 30:31.68. Entering this weekend, there were no other provisional qualifiers for the event.

Jenny Sandoval and Mikayla Akers put up provisional-worthy efforts on Friday for the women's team. Sandoval ran in the 5K, where she won the event by crossing the finish line at 16:31.15, which is more than 30 seconds faster than the provisional standard (16:31.15). Entering this weekend, Sandoval's time is the fastest effort in the nation. Akers hit the provisional standard in the 1500, where she ran a personal record race of 4:31.67, which puts her No. 4 on the national qualifying list entering this weekend.

In addition to the Cougars' efforts on the track, Nicole Warwick and Allie Brooks competed on Friday in the javelin. Warwick, who is currently No. 4 on the national list with a season-best mark of 44.75m (146' 10"), had a best mark today of 40.77m (133' 9"). Brooks delivered a season-best effort of 39.24m (128' 9") on Friday.Â
