Monday Morning Perfection

Azusa Pacific did not drop a set in its 7-0 win over Hawai'i Hilo on Monday.

AZUSA, Calif - The Cougars hosted Hawai'i Hilo for a Monday Morning match, and the Cougars prevailed by a 7-0 score. Azusa Pacific did not drop a set in the match, and the Vulcans were held to three or fewer games won in all but one set.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Carolyn Booker and April Wong put the Cougars out in front, taking the set 6-3. On court No. 3, Madison Kane and Audrey Stewart followed, winning their matchup by a 6-2 margin, clinching the doubles point for Azusa Pacific. 

At No. 1, Eleonora Liga made quick work of her opponent Carolina Alfonsin, winning both sets by a 6-0 score to push the Cougar lead up to 2-0 overall. On court No. 2, Wong held the momentum, also winning in straight sets (6-2, 6-0), to give Azusa Pacific a 3-0 lead. Katherine Nguyen claimed the match clinching point at No. 6, winning in straight sets (6-1,6-2). 

The Cougars closed out the match with straight set wins at No. 3 (Carolyn Brooner won 6-1, 6-3), No. 5 (Lilla Plasek won 6-3, 6-3) and No. 4 (Audrey Stewart won 7-5, 6-3).

Up Next: The Cougars will be back at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex tomorrow morning for a 10:30 AM matchup against the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific. Tomorrow's match will be the second time that the Cougars and Sharks have met this season, with Azusa Pacific seeking to even the season series, as Hawai'i Pacific earned a victory out in Hawai'i in early February.
