LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Azusa Pacific women's swim & dive travelled to Loyola Marymount Saturday for the team's final tune-up meet before the PCSC Championships (Feb. 16-19). The Cougars swam mostly off events but were led by
Riley Smith,
Emily Rigsby, and
Amanda Anderson each of which took first in an event.
"Today was a good tune-up for conference," head coach
Tim Kyle said. "The team swam mostly off events and short sprint stroke events that we will not compete at conference. I think we are in a good place leading into PCSC Championships."
How it Happened: The day started with the 200 medley relay which saw the Cougars take second and third place as Anderson and
Delanie Gearing led the way in a tight relay that came down to the final two lengths.Â
Anderson swam the 100 backstroke, an off event for her, and finished in second with a time of 1:01.66 before Smith cleaned up in both the 50 & 100 free with times of 25.07 and 54.47 respectively.Â
In the 50 breaststroke,
Holly Williams and
Paige Colligan took second and third place to pick up some points for the Cougars. Then, Anderson won her first event of the day with a time of 58.78 in the 100 fly.Â
The Cougars dominated the 100 IM and took the top three spots in the race which included Rigsby (1:04.02), Gearing (1:04.28), and
Hannah Swailes (1:04.54). Finally, Azusa Pacific finished in second in the final event which was the 200 free relay, a race that was decided by less than a second. Rigsby and Anderson gave Azusa Pacific the early lead the second and third legs of the relay but
Tessie Scavone was just edged out at the wall. The final score of the meet was in favor of Loyola Marymount, 116-82.
Up Next: The Cougars will travel to St. George, Utah where the PCSC Championships will be hosted by Dixie State from Wednesday, February 16th to Saturday, February 19th. Stay up to date with the meet details at APUCougars.com.
