SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Azusa Pacific had little trouble on Monday afternoon, as the Cougars rolled past Point Loma 7-0 for their third consecutive win.Â
Azusa Pacific would open the match by sweeping the doubles matchups. Ethan Smith & Sam Sippel earned the first win of the day at No. 3, finishing 6-3 over David Strassburger and Elias Weeks. On court #1, Ryan Nuno and Leyton Bohren found themselves in a battle against Tyler Davis and Lukas Schuster. Nuno and Bohren would deliver for the Cougars, eventually winning 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars.
Ivan Noel Hornung secured the first singles point for the Cougars, winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) at No. 5 over Jasdeep Paintal. Azusa Pacific would add three more points via straight set victories, with Caden Samkutty at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2), Miha Velicki's match-clincher at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2), and Sam Sippel at No. 2 (6-3, 6-3).Â
On court #3, Elias Emilio Walter won his first set 6-4, lost 2-6 in the second set, but came back to win in the third by a 6-3 score. Ryan Nuno would also win in a super tiebreaker for the Cougars at No. 1, defeating Davis 7-6 (8-5), 5-7, 10-7.
