KAILUA, Hawai'i - Azusa Pacific opened two days of matches out in Hawai'i on Friday afternoon, and the Cougars opened their weekend with a 6-1 loss to Hawai'i Pacific.
Hawai'i Pacific was able to secure the upper hand in doubles, taking the No. 1 and No. 2 matches for the lone singles point. Azusa Pacific avoided the straight sweep, with Carolyn Brooner and Lilla Plasek claiming a 6-4 victory.
Nora Liga improved her singles record to 4-0 this season, as she was the Cougars' only winner at No. 1 against Elodie Busson. Liga won the first set 7-6 (7-5), and then shut the door on Busson with a 6-3 second set win. This season, Liga has won three of her four matches in straight sets, with the only three-set affair coming against Natalie Duffy, whom she played at No. 1 in the Cougars' road match at Division I Cal State Fullerton.
In all other singles matches, the Sharks won in straight sets, keeping any Cougar from winning more than three games in a set.
Up Next: Tomorrow, the Cougars will take on Hawai'i Hilo. First serve is set for 9:00 am local time, 11:00 am Pacific time.
