COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Azusa Pacific opened its indoor track & field season on Friday, as the Cougars had athletes compete on the first of two days at the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invitational & Multis.
MULTIS
Aaron Worrell and Lincoln Krog competed in four events on day one, while Nicole Warwick and Alysa Henry competed in the pentathlon.
Both Warwick and Henry met the NCAA Division II Nationals provisional standard (3,247) to start the season, with both athletes achieving lifetime-best scores for the pentathlon. Warwick, who is second all-time in program history for the pentathlon, finished with 3,989 points, while Alysa Henry posted the program's third-best pentathlon score of all-time with a final count of 3,934. Warwick's previous personal-best was 3,907, which she achieved during the 2018 season, while Henry's best effort was 3,542, which she scored last winter.
"Nicole and Alysa stepped up big today," said Azusa Pacific head coach Jack Hoyt, "They have had a great 12 week training period and their confidence was at an all-time high. It will be exciting to see where they can be by Nationals."
Warwick posted new career-best marks in two events, as she opened with a 60 hurdles time of 8.65, and a few events later, she reached a distance of 12.70m (41' 8") in the shot put.Â
Henry set new personal-bests in her first three events of the day, and she also tied her lifetime-best in the long jump. Henry opened with a 60 hurdles time of 8.85 seconds, then cleared a height of 1.68m (5' 6") in the high jump, followed by a distance of 12.54m (41' 1 ¾") in the shot put, and a leap of 5.85m (19' 2 ½") in the long jump.
In the heptathlon, Worrell has 3,093 points and Krog sits at 2,981 points after four events on Friday with three more to go on Saturday. Worrell opened the competition with a career-best time of 6.90 in the 60 hurdles.
LONG JUMP
Jermel Jones II, Raymon Harper, and Isaiah Harris all competed in the long jump. Jones II, who was an indoor All-American last year, opened his season with a provisional distance of 7.25m (23' 9 ½"), which earned him a fourth-place finish. Harris also achieved provisional status in the event, reaching a distance of 7.19m (23' 7 ¼"), which placed him fifth in the competition. Harper placed eighth, with a mark of 6.89m (22' 7 ¼").
DAY TWO SCHEDULE
Worrell and Krog will seek provisional standing in the heptathlon (4,711 points) with the final three events scheduled for Saturday.
