AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific defeated Point Loma by a 6-0 score on Friday afternoon.Â

In doubles, the Cougars were able to open with a 6-4 win at no. 1 by Jakob Schnaitter and Leyton Bohren. Point Loma was able to draw even with a 6-4 victory at no. 2, and all eyes turned towards the no. 3 matchup with the doubles point on the line. It was the Azusa Pacific pairing of Dylan Parsley and Ethan Smith who stepped up to give the Cougars a 1-0 match lead, as the duo posted a 6-4 win.

In singles, the Cougars were able to make quick work of the Sea Lions at no. 1 and no. 2. Sam Sippel (no. 2) was the first to pick up a win, claiming the first set 6-2, and then following up with a 6-0 second set. Schnaitter won the no. 1 matchup at 6-0, 6-2, allowing the Cougars to take a 3-0 lead and need just one more victory to win the match.

Ryan Nuno delivered the clinching point for the Cougars at no. 3, winning 6-2, 6-3. Azusa Pacific added two more points with a 6-2, 6-3 win by Leyton Bohren at no. 4, and Ian Lee finished with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at no. 5.

"I was very pleased with how we performed today," said head coach Mark Bohren, "we played some great tennis and it was a full team effort."
The Cougars will look to carry today's momentum into Saturday, where they will play two matches against different opponents. At 9:00 am, they will take on Colorado Mesa, and at 2:30 pm, fellow PacWest member Hawai'i Hilo visits. Follow along with live scoring here.
