GRAND VALLEY, Mich. -- The 2021-22 indoor track & field season began this weekend, and Ayrton Ledesma represented Azusa Pacific out in Michigan at the GVSU Holiday Open, where he raced in the 5K. In his first race as a Cougar, Ledesma ran a personal-best time of 14:30.24.

His personal best time was the second fastest time in his heat, and the 14th fastest overall, as there were four total heats of the men's 5K.

"It was good to get the first race under his belt," said head coach Sean Smith, "I certainly believe in different circumstances, he runs much faster and I am looking forward to working towards that. It was great to see him set a new personal record in his first time out, and he will only grow stronger throughout the season."

The GVSU Holiday Open is the first of eight meets (including Nationals) on Azusa Pacific's indoor schedule. Next weekend, a larger contingency of Cougars will be heading out to Colorado, where they will compete in the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite and Multi on Friday and Saturday. Stay tuned for performance lists and links to results, which will be posted to the Track & Field schedule pages on APUCougars.
