GRAND VALLEY, Mich. -- The 2021-22 indoor track & field season began this weekend, and Ayrton Ledesma represented Azusa Pacific out in Michigan at the GVSU Holiday Open, where he raced in the 5K. In his first race as a Cougar, Ledesma ran a personal-best time of 14:30.24.Â
Â
His personal best time was the second fastest time in his heat, and the 14th fastest overall, as there were four total heats of the men's 5K.Â
Â
"It was good to get the first race under his belt," said head coach Sean Smith, "I certainly believe in different circumstances, he runs much faster and I am looking forward to working towards that. It was great to see him set a new personal record in his first time out, and he will only grow stronger throughout the season."
Â
The GVSU Holiday Open is the first of eight meets (including Nationals) on Azusa Pacific's indoor schedule. Next weekend, a larger contingency of Cougars will be heading out to Colorado, where they will compete in the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite and Multi on Friday and Saturday. Stay tuned for performance lists and links to results, which will be posted to the Track & Field schedule pages on APUCougars.
