Box Score AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific picked up its first win of the 2020 season, defeating Point Loma 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars started off the match in dominant fashion, taking all three doubles matchups and claiming the first point of the match.
Anna Savchenko and
April Wong were teamed up for the Cougars as #2 doubles, posting a 6-1 win.
Petra Ivankovic and
Audrey Stewart clinched the point in the #3 doubles spot with a 6-3 score.
Jacky Wagner and
Courtney Page finished it off with a 6-3 victory in #1 doubles.
Azusa Pacific continued its dominance in singles, winning #1, #2, #3, #4 and #5 singles.
Anna Savchenko was slotted at #1, and she grabbed a two set win (6-2, 6-4) to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
April Wong, who was #4 for the Cougars, also claimed a two-set victory (6-1, 7-5) and increased the advantage to 3-0. Following a Point Loma win in #6 singles, Azusa Pacific still needed one more victory to clinch the match.
Katia Betancourt stepped up for the Cougars and delivered in #5 singles, winning 6-3, 6-3 to ensure the match win. Azusa Pacific added two more points with victories from
Petra Ivankovic at #2 singles (6-4, 6-4), and
Jacky Wagner in a three-set battle at #3 (4-6, 6-1, 6-3).
The Cougars are now preparing for a matchup with rival Biola on Monday, Feb. 10 at 4:30 pm.
