Box Score Azusa, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific men's tennis team defended its home court Saturday morning with a 6-1 win over the visiting Point Loma Sea Lions at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. The Cougars displayed dominance against the Sea Lions, grabbing a decisive doubles point and then pinning up singles wins from Jacob Schnaitter and Sam Sippel to secure the victory. Azusa Pacific is now 3-1 on the year.
In doubles the Cougars got up a break on all courts to capture the first point of the day. On court two, Schnaitter and Sippel dominated with a 6-1 win. The tandem of Jesse Haas and Leyton Bohren finished with a 7-5 victory at the top spot while teammates Ethan Smith and Ryan Nuno whipped up another 7-6 (8-6)Â win at the No. 3 spot to send the Cougars on to singles with a 1-0 lead on the board.
In singles, the Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Schnaitter claimed the first victory at the top spot 6-1, 6-1 followed by a win at the No. 2 position from Sippel 6-2, 6-2. The Sea Lions received its only point from court 6, but the Cougars answered back with victories on all courts the remainder of the day. Leyton Bohren finished at the No. 3 spot with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory while Cole Rassner won 6-2, 7-5 on court 5. Jesse Haas finished out the match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory to clinch the Cougar's win.
