SEASIDE, Calif. — Azusa Pacific baseball dropped the final game against Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon 20-2.
How it Happened:Â
The Cougars fell behind 2-0 in the first two innings, before they fought back in the third. Eli Ledesma and Aaron Roose led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After Ledesma moved to third on a passed ball, Travis Aversa drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center field cutting the deficit to 2-1.
That was as close as the Cougars would get however, the rest of the game. Senior Nick Estrella hit his second solo home run of the season (first on road) in the fourth inning. Ledesma was the lone Cougar with more than one-hit as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the game.Â
Azusa Pacific's pitching staff struggled as a whole on the day allowing 17 earned runs on 18 hits. Transfer Matthew Johnson made his Cougar debut, tossing an inning and had the only two Cougar punch outs. Freshman Shane Cronin also made his debut throwing one full inning as well.Â
The Cougars next game will be against a familiar opponent, the Concordia Eagles. The game will be played in Irvine, Calif. this Tuesday, February 11th. Azusa Pacific will be looking for its first road win, the game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
