Azusa Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame Welcomes the 2019 Class

Ten Cougar greats will join the Azusa Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame, as the 2019 class is announced.

AZUSA, Calif. – A two-time Major League Baseball all-star, a pair of championship meet outstanding performers, and key players of first-ever national championship programs highlight the ten inductees for the Azusa Pacific 2019 Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

"This is an impressive group of honorees who richly deserve to enter into our Hall," said April Hoy, chair of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.  "When you consider the years these athletes represent in the history of Azusa Pacific, and you understand their accomplishments, you begin to realize the magnitude of APU athletics on a national level during the 1990s and 2000s."

The 2019 Azusa Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame Class, as selected by a committee of university representatives, is Briana Carstensen (track & field/cross country), Dexter Davis (football), Jennifer Dao (women's tennis), Sam Fletcher (men's tennis), Peder Moore (football), Aron Rono (track & field/cross country), Jenna Sagehorn (volleyball), Stephen Vogt (baseball), Eric Wattree (basketball), and Lindsey West (basketball).

All ten inductees represented Azusa Pacific in NAIA championship tournaments or meets, while four of them led their team to at least one NAIA title, and another two paced their team to the national semifinals.  Seven of the inductees played significant roles in Azusa Pacific winning the first five of eight straight Directors' Cups, which annually signaled APU as the top athletics program in the NAIA.

The 2019 class will be inducted into the Azusa Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. in the Felix Event Center.  The ceremony will be open to the public for $25 a person.

"I know I speak for the entire Selection Committee when I say how excited we are for this ceremony," said Hoy.  "These are fantastic athletes and wonderful people who we are looking forward to having back on campus and having their legacies enshrined."

In addition to the induction of the ten individual athletes, the 1979 Azusa Pacific women's volleyball team will be recognized at the ceremony for the 40thanniversary of their AIAW national championship.
