Cougars Defeat Golden Eagles 6-1

Los Angeles, Calif.-- The APU women's tennis team pulled out a nearly perfect 6-1 victory Wednesday afternoon against the Cal State LA Golden Eagles. After receiving their last regular season victory on the road, the Cougars hold an 11-7 overall record on the season.

The Cougars came out of the gate hot and dominated on all three courts in doubles play. Petra Ivankovic and Audrey Stewart finished first at court three with a solid 6-1 victory before the tandem of Kara Hinton and Jacky Wagner clinched the doubles point at the top spot with a 6-2 win. Even though the doubles point had been captured by the Cougars, Anna Savchenko and April Wong finished out at the No. 2 spot and snagged a 6-4 victory to head into singles leading 1-0 against the Golden Eagles.

The Cougars continued to claim wins as singles began with Mikayla Rinker defeated her opponent at the No. 6 position 6-0, 6-3. Shortly after, teammate April Wong extended the score 3-0 for APU after finishing with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 slot. At the top spot, No. 27 Petra Ivankovic clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win.

Although APU had already won the match, the remaining courts were played out. Senior Kara Hinton won in a three set 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win at the No. position while Jacky Wagner snagged a hard fought 7-6, 2-6, 10-3 victory at the No. 4 spot shorty after. At the No. 2 slot, Cal State LA's Luciana Di Laura closed out the match and defeated APU's Anna Savchenko in a 6-7, 6-3, 10-7 battle to put a point on the board for the Golden Eagles.

Up next, the Cougars will return home Saturday April, 13 to wrap up the regular season against PacWest rival Point Loma at 3:00 p.m.
