SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.-- The No. 10 Academy of Art stepped up to play Monday morning against the No. 16 Azusa Pacific women's tennis team, sweeping the Cougars with a 4-0 victory in San Francisco. With the loss, the Cougars are now 10-6 on the season.
Starting in doubles play at the top spot, the Urban Knights jumped out to a 6-1 win over
Kara Hinton and
Jacky Wagner. The Cougars responded shortly after with a 7-5 victory at court two from the tandem of
Anna Savchenko and
April Wong. With all eyes on court three, Maria Andrisani and Sofia Ragona came out on top with a hard fought 6-3 victory over
Petra Ivankovic and Mikaya Rinker to snag the first point of the morning.
Moving into singles, Academy of Art continued to hold on to their momentum at court six with Paula Alcantara grabbing another point for the Urban Knights after downing APU's
Mikayla Rinker 1-6, 4-6 to make it a 2-0 lead. Shortly after at the No. 3 position,
Anna Savchenko fell 3-6, 0-6 to Alma Thell-Lenntorp before sister Klara Thell-Lenntorp clinched the match over No. 13
Petra Ivankovic with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot.
The Cougars will return to action Saturday March, 6 for a 1:30 p.m. matchup back at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Courts against UC San Diego. Â
