Azusa, Calif.-- The No. 12 APU men's tennis team scooped up a 6-1 win under sunny skies at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Courts, taking tight doubles point before firing off five singles wins to top Division I Omaha University. Coming through with the clincher for the Cougars was
Jesse Haas at the No. 5 spot. The victory improves the Cougars to 14-1 overall on the year.
The Cougars held its ground on court two, netting a 6-4 win from the tandem of
Ryan Nuno and
Leyton Bohren. Omaha proved strong at the No. 3 slot, taking a 6-4 upset win over
Ethan Smith and
Ronald Kang. With all eyes at the top spot,
Jakob Schnaitter and
Jesse Haas knocked off their opponents with a 7-5 victory to pin a 1-0 lead on the board for the Cougars to take into singles play.
Jakob Schnaitter snagged the first singles win at the No.1 spot with a 6-4, 6-3 finish to open up the winning singles surge for the Cougars.
Dillon Barnard hit the finish line next, whipping up a smooth 6-2, 6-2 win on court six before Omaha took its only point of the day at the No. 3 slot, downing APU's
Leyton Bohren in both sets 6-4.
Jesse Haas notched a solid 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 position to lock up the win 4-1. The match played on, with
Ryan Nuno drumming up a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot while
Ronald Kang finished the day with a long fought 4-6, 6-3, 17-15 victory to wrap the match as a 6-1 final for the Cougars.
APU's next competition brings rival Biola to the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex Friday, March 22 for a Cornerstone Cup Rivalry Series in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
