Box Score Azusa, Calif.-- The Azusa Pacific men's tennis team served up another shutout in the Cornerstone Cup rivalry match against Biola Friday afternoon with a 5-0 win. With the sweep, the Cougars improve 15-1 on the season.
The Cougars jumped out to a strong start in doubles with
Jakob Schnaitter and
Jesse Haas downing their opponents at the top spot 6-1. The tandem of
Ronald Kang and
Ethan Smith secured the fist point of the day at the No. 3 position with a 6-3 victory. Teammates
Ryan Nuno and
Leyton Bohren finished shortly behind with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot before heading into singles 1-0 for the Cougars.
Once again, after snagging a doubles win, No. 9
Jakob Schnaitter tore his way through to the first singles victory. Schnaitter's winning momentum carried him to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Biola's Edwyn Ramos on court one to tug the Cougars ahead 2-0. Soon after, teammate
Leyton Bohren zipped his way to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ian Nieh at the No. 4 spot, taking APU ahead 3-0 with two Cougars closing in fast with on the clincher.
Ronald Kang hit the finish line first, clinching the match with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win at court three over Logan Blair.
Ryan Nuno wrapped up the match at the No. 2 position 6-3, 7-5 over Derek James to seal the 5-0 victory for the Cougars.
The APU Cougars will be back in action Tuesday, March 26 at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Courts against Middleburry for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.
