Back-To-Back Wins Run Record To 7-0

AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific notched two victories Saturday with a pair of wins over NCAA Division III foes, defeating Redlands Saturday morning followed by a win over Caltech in the afternoon at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Courts.

Azusa Pacific, which is ranked  No. 11 in the ITA Division II men's tennis team rankings, improved to 7-0 on the season.

Azusa Pacific 4, Redlands 0

The Cougars came out on top in doubles, winning two of three doubles matches starting with a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot from Ethan Smith and Ronald Kang. Jakob Schnaitter and Jesse Haas dropped the only match of the day, 6-3, at the No. 2 position, but teammates Ryan Nuno and Leyton Bohren clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 slot over Chase Lipscomb and Henry McNeal.

In singles, the Cougars clinched the victory with three quick wins, which all finished in straight sets. Finishing first for the Cougars was Jakob Schnaitter at the No. 1 position, 6-0, 6-1. Trailing right behind him at the No. 2 slot for another win was Ryan Nuno, who posted a 6-0, 6-4 win, and freshman Ethan Smith clinched the team's morning victory over Redlands with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 spot.

Azusa Pacific 4, Caltech 0

The Cougars won all three doubles against the Beavers, winning all three by 6-3 scores, to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles play.

In singles, the Cougars clinched the match with three more quick victories. Ryan Nuno won at the No. 2 position 6-1, 6-4 while teammate Jesse Haas finished right behind with a 6-0, 7-5 victory at the No. 3 slot. Roberto Luconi wrapped up the day clinching the team win with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 spot over Kevin Yu.

What's Next: The Cougars take their undefeated record on the road for their next match, visiting Concordia on Saturday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m.
