Cougars' Record Climbs

AZUSA, Calif. –Taking a break from the NCAA Division II portion of their schedule, the No. 13 Azusa Pacific men's tennis team improved 5-0 after their Saturday morning victory over Division III No. 12 Pomona Pitzer College.

Doubles
The Cougars walked away from doubles without a scratch 3-0 into singles. The tandem of Jakob Schnaitter and Jesse Haas received the Cougar's first victory at the No. 1 position 6-1. Teammates Ronald Kang and Ethan Smith beat their opponents 7-6 (7-5) in the No. 3 spot. Ryan Nuno and Leyton Bohren wrapped things up at the No. 2 slot with a 7-6 (7-4) to secure the Cougars first point of the match.
Singles
Dropping its only match of the morning, Pomona-Pitzer's Octave Bellet defeated Ronald Kang 6-4, 6-0 In the No. 3 position. Azusa Pacific retaliated and won its next five matches. Leyton Bohren finished second and recovered for the Cougars with a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) victory at the No. 4 spot. No. 9 Jakob Schnaitter finished at the No. 1 slot with a 7-5, 6-0 win, while freshman Ethan Smith also came out on top with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 position. Ryan Nuno beat his opponent at the No. 2 spot 6-4, 6-2. Jesse Haas wrapped up the morning with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-8 comeback to clinch the Cougars victory.  
 
What's Next: The Cougars take a few days off before returning for a match on the road Thursday Feb. 21 at Concordia for a 2:00 p.m. start.
