LA MIRADA, Calif.-- The No. 13-ranked Azusa Pacific men's tennis team posted a 5-0 victory on the road at Biola Monday afternoon, giving the Cougars a 4-0 start to the season for the third straight year.

SINGLES: After a retirement at the No. 2 spot gave
Ryan Nuno the first singles win of the match, the next two singles matches that finished went in straight sets. First to beat the Eagles was
Leyton Bohren at the No. 4 position with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Andres Meneses. Shortly after,
Jakob Schnaitter (No. 9 Division II singles ranking) finished with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 slot over Edwin Ramos.
Jesse Haas provided the final team point of the match with a third-set super tiebreaker victory after splitting the first two sets at No. 5 for a 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 win.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars return home after winning their last three matches on the road, hosting Pomona-Pitzer (NCAA Division III) on Saturday morning at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex at 10:00 a.m.
CORNERSTONE CUP UPDATE: The Cornerstone Cup rivalry series presented by West Coast Sand & Gravel tracks head-to-head rivalry competition between Azusa Pacific and Biola throughout the year, and Azusa Pacific entered the spring sports season holding a 50-20 lead in the yearlong rivalry competition between the athletic programs of each school. Monday's match was the first of two regular-season men's tennis meetings between the rival programs, and the Cougars' victory ensured at least a split of the 10 points at stake for men's tennis in the overall Cornerstone Cup standings.
The Cougars now hold a 55-20 lead with another Cornerstone Cup clash coming up in La Mirada later this week at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships (Feb. 13-16). The higher-finishing team in the PCSC Championship meet will claim another 10 points in the overall season trophy standings. The schools also meet again in six more spring sports: baseball, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track and field, and women's track and field.
