Isaac Bawa was named the PacWest Defender of the Week for the second time this season, as he scored two goals in two matches for top-ranked Azusa Pacific, as the Cougars improved to 14-0 on the season.
Â
In the Cougars' 3-2 overtime win over Hawai'i Hilo, Bawa put the match away in the 100
th minutes. The Cougars had a corner kick, and Jesse Echeverria put a ball into the box that Bawa was able to make a play on, as he sent a header pass the Vulcan keeper to put the match away and preserve the undefeated season. It was his first goal of the season.
Â
He would not need to wait long for his second goal of the campaign, as he scored in the seventh minute of Azusa Pacific's 3-1 win over Chaminade.
Â
Bawa, the PacWest Defender of the Year and Freshman of the Year last season, has anchored a defense that has posted six shutouts and allowed more than two goals in a match just twice.
Â
Azusa Pacific will be back in action tomorrow, as it welcomes rival Biola for a 7:30 p.m. game. The game will have Cornerstone Cup implications, as the winning side will claim 10 points for its institution in the rivalry series between Biola and Azusa Pacific. The Cornerstone Cup is proudly sponsored by West Coast Sand & Gravel.
