ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – As the closing stretch of the season begins, Azusa Pacific is putting together a solid string of results.
For the fifth straight match the Cougars were victorious, this time they posted a 7-2 win against Flagler to close out their two-match road swing through Florida.
Azusa Pacific, ranked 13th in the most recent national polls, moves to 15-6.
DOUBLES: The Cougars were breaking serve at a high rate in taking a commanding lead heading into singles.
The top doubles squad of Toby Miclat and Petra Ivankovic notched an 8-2 victory while the No. 2 team of Kara Hinton and Diana Baumgartnere was even more impressive with an 8-1 win.
Courtney Page and Mikayla Rinker rounded out the convincing wins with an 8-2 tally in their favor at the third slot.
SINGLES: Despite dropping two matches, the Cougars were in firm control of the team match as they closed out the win.
Ivankovic put Azusa Pacific on the scoreboard with their first singles win. She posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position. In the fourth slot Kara Hinton put together another win by going the distance in the first frame before closing out with a sweep in the second set. The junior won her fourth in five matches with a 7-6 (3), 6-0 victory to seal the team contest.
Azusa Pacific picked up another straight sets win (6-1, 6-3) from Jackie Resler at the No. 5 spot. Courtney Page went the distance to grab her 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win in the No. 6 position.
Flagler was able to get win at the first and third positions.
