Looking to complete a difficult task, the Cougars are two-thirds of the way there after knocking off No. 6 Flagler College 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday 19th ranked Azusa Pacific looks to improve on their 20-1 record when they host No. 1 Barry at Noon (EST). Combined with today's win, the Cougars have beaten top 15 teams on back-to-back days after beating Embry-Riddle yesterday.
DOUBLES: The Cougars took a 2-1 lead heading into singles play as they won at the odd number slots.
Christian Schmid and Oliver Frank posted a solid 8-5 at the No. 1 spot in notching their team leading 15th win of the season. Jesse Haas and Ryan Nuno gave Azusa Pacific their second team point with an 8-6 win. The duo battled throughout as they took a 7-4 lead and were able to grind out one more game to secure the victory.
The only blemish came at the No. 2 slot as Jakob Schnaitter and Antonio Pejic fell 8-5.
SINGLES: Azusa Pacific got some relief by winning the first three matches off the court to clinch the team win. The German trio all won in straight sets at the top three positions.
Oliver Frank won his match against No. 13 Luca Bolla in convincing 6-2, 6-0 fashion at the No. 1 slot. Christian Schmid notched a 7-5, 6-3 victory while Jakob Schnaitter recorded a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at the second and third spots respectively.
Flagler was able to grab wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions in straight sets.
Ryan Nuno's contest at the fifth slot was the only to go the distance but he fell to Konstantin Dustmann 1-6, 6-3, 10-4.
