Biography

2018 (fall) : Schmid lost to Frank 6-2, 6-0 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region singles championship then partnered with Frank to win the doubles title 8-1 against fellow Cougars Tony Pejic and Jakob Schnaitter in the finals, winning the region's singles title. In the ITA Oracle Cup National Championship match, Schmid and Frank dispatch of KP Pannu and Alvaro Regalado from Columbus State (Ga.) 6-0, 6-3 to win the title. By winning the NCAA Division II title, the Cougar duo qualified for the Oracle Cup small college doubles title. In the finals the Cougars ran out of gas as Kevin Konfederak and Gilad Berman (Georgia Gwinnett) posted a 6-4, 6-4 win. Schmid and Frank won their opening match against Cartier Juan and Ethan Prost from Loyola Marymount 8-2 before falling to Devine and Smith 8-5 in the quarterfinals of the UTSA Southern California Intercollegiate Tennis Championship.

2017 (senior) : Went 22-1 dropping one match to the 34th ranked singles player in the country. Schmid played most of his season at the No. 2 position. In doubles he was paired with both Pascal Engel and Shepherd Newcomb where he went 21-7. Schmid earned First-Team All-PacWest honors and Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American honors. Schmid has the 6th best singles winning percentage with .956.

2016 (junior) : Christian Schmid had a successful first season for the Cougars with a 15-5 record in singles while playing mostly at the top of lineup (No. 2 singles)… Schmidt posted a victory playing at No.1 spot against Concordia; made an important contribution in matches against Point Loma, Western New Mexico and BYU-Hawaii…  Led the team with 20 doubles wins while playing with Jan Mayer at the first slot (6-1), and Shepherd Newcomb (14-2) at No.3.

Previous school: Universitat Regensburg: Played for two years, leading the team to the German national title in 2012... In 2013, qualified for the European College Championships and took ninth place in Montenegro.

High School: Attended Kepler Gymnasium in Weiden, Germany.

Personal: Born on Sept. 13, 1991 in Weiden, Germany to Alfred and Irmgard Schmid... Has one brother, Rainer, and one sister, Anja... Is working on his MBA, and wants to go into the automobile industry... Enjoys soccer, skiing, and music.
