SURPRISE, Ariz. – For the fifth straight season the Cougars find themselves in a very familiar place.

Azusa Pacific knocked off Point Loma 5-1 to reach the finals of the PacWest Tournament for the fifth consecutive year. It is the third time the Cougars have knocked off their foes from San Diego this season.

Since joining the league for the 2014 campaign, they have made the championship match each time. On Saturday afternoon they will look to win their first title when they face Hawai'i Hilo at 1:30 p.m.

With Friday's win Azusa Pacific's up their record to 24-2 and all but assure themselves of a spot into the NCAA postseason. On either Monday, April 30 or Tuesday, May 1 the Cougars will play in a NCAA Division West Regional contest in Azusa.

DOUBLES: Azusa Pacific themselves in a comfortable position by nabbing wins in two of the three contests.

Oliver Frank and Jakob Schnaitter cruised to an 8-2 win at the No. 1 position but Point Loma was given a glimmer of hope as Thomas Dafcik and Yuki Okamoto tallied an 8-4 victory at the second slot. Ryan Nuno and Jesse Haas were off the courts quickly thereafter with an 8-3 triumph at the third spot.

SINGLES: Antonio Pejic gave the Cougars their third team point quickly. The senior notched a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 6 slot to aid in the Azusa Pacific cause. Christian Schmid pulled Azusa Pacific with one win of the team victory with the same scored at the No. 2 spot.

Clinching the match was Oliver Frank's 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 1 slot.

While the remaining three matches were unfinished the Cougars had at least a one set lead in each of them.
