SURPRISE, Ariz. – Back in familiar territory.
For the fifth time in as many attempts, Azusa Pacific reached the semifinal round of the PacWest Tournament with a 5-0 win against Holy Names.
The victory lifts the Cougars to a Friday match against the winner of Point Loma and Hawai'i Pacific at 1:30 p.m. Azusa Pacific is now 23-2
During the tournament the matches are played until a team has secured five team points.
DOUBLES: Azusa Pacific took a solid lead by getting at least two breaks of serve in each contest.
Ryan Nuno and Jesse Haas won the first completed contest by an 8-2 count at the No. 3 position. The Cougars won their second match as Oliver Frank and Jakob Schnaitter recorded an 8-4 win at the second slot.
The sweep was made complete when Antonio Pejic and Christian Schmid tallied an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 spot.
SINGLES: With their stellar lead the Cougars rested some of their regulars as one of the best players in the nation and a first-year clinched the contest.
Frank notched a straight set (6-1, 6-2) win at the No. 1 slot then Dillon Barnard sealed the team win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the fifth position.
Azusa Pacific won the first set at the remaining matches.
