Sixth Straight Win for Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. – Looking to continue their momentum from their recent success in Florida, Azusa Pacific was solid in the home regular season finale.

The Cougars were methodical in claiming a 6-3 win against Cal State for their sixth straight win.

The No. 11 Cougars move to 16-6 with two matches left in the regular season. Azusa Pacific travels to San Diego this weekend for contests against UC San Diego and Point Loma on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Azusa Pacific could still host one more match at home if they are able to secure the No. 1 or No. 2 seed for the West Regional. Four teams qualify for the postseason event which will be held the week after the PacWest Tournament (April 18-21).

DOUBLES: The winning teams at each position cruised their wins as just two total games were lost between the three matches.

In less than 30 seconds the matches at the first and third positions were complete and Azusa Pacific had a 2-0 lead. Courtney Page and Mikayla Rinker won their team best 16th match together with an 8-1 victory. Petra Ivankovic and Toby Miclat wrapped-up their seventh match together with a perfect win. The duo is 6-1 together all while playing at the No. 1 slot.

The Cal State L.A. tandem of Elizaveta Sokolova and Chelsey Ruiz notched an 8-1 triumph in their first contest together.

SINGLES: Azusa Pacific came away with the first three wins off the courts in just over an hours to seal the team victory.

Page won the first completed contest with a solid bagel and a breadstick win (6-0, 6-1) in the sixth spot. The freshman continues to make the most of her opportunities during singles play as she has won all five if her singles contests. Baumgartnere was victorious in that contest. Hinton posted the sixth team point for the Cougars with a great rally in the first set that led the a successful second frame. From the No. 3 spot, the junior fought back from a 4-1 deficit to force a tiebreaker were she was down 5-1. She battled back to win the tiebreaker 10-8 then won the final set by dropping just one game.

Cal State L.A. won their only singles match with a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 5 position.
