AZUSA, Calif. – With so much going right, you could have forgiven the men's tennis squad for potentially looking past Wednesday's match with a bigger contest looming on the horizon.
The Cougars certainly did not look past Holy Names on Wednesday as sixth-ranked Azusa Pacific used a deep roster to notch an 8-1 win.
Ten different players contributed to the victory as they remained undefeated after 10 matches. On Friday the Cougars welcome defending PacWest champions Hawai'i Pacific to the Canyon City.
DOUBLES: The tandem of Oliver Frank and Christian Schmid gave the Cougars their first team point with an 8-4 win at the top spot. Ryan Nuno and Jesse Haas followed moments later at the third position by claiming an 8-3 victory.
Antonio Pejic and Jakob Schnaitter made it a clean sweep as the tallied an 8-5 triumph at the No. 2 position.
SINGLES: With strong success in doubles, the Cougars moved around their line-up as they won five of the six contests.
Nuno completed his perfect day as he won his first match of the season at the No. 3 position. He didn't drop a game in completing the first singles match of the contest. Schnaitter, playing in the second slot for just the second time in 2018, clinched team match with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Alan Leahy notched her seventh win of the season, and first at the No. 4 spot, with a straight sets (6-4, 6-2) victory of his own. Holy Names won of the day with Alex Vinee-Munoz getting a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win at the No. 1 slot.
Closing out the contest Dillon Barnard won 6-3, 6-3 in his second match of the season at the No. 5 slot while Cameron Beckman won his initial match of the season at the No. 6 spot. The senior concluded the team contest with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
