AZUSA, Calif. – The Cougars got just what they needed.
Looking to snap a three-match skid, the Azusa Pacific women's tennis squad posted an impressive 8-1 victory against Hawai'i Hilo on Tuesday afternoon.
The seventh ranked Cougars move to 11-6 while Hawai'i Hilo falls to 7-8.
DOUBLES: Using a unique line-up for the first time this season, the Cougars were quite pleased with the results.
Mikayla Rinker and Courtney Page continued their success together as they recorded an 8-2 win at the No. 3 slot. They are 12-3 together when playing in that position. Toby Miclat and Petra Ivankovic moved to 2-0 when playing together at the No. 1 position with an 8-4 victory.
Kara Hinton and Diana Baumgartnere partnered for just the second time and first at the No. 2 position. They claimed an 8-6 victory in giving the squad a huge edge heading into singles play.
SINGLES: The Cougars took four of the contests in straight
Miclat was perfect as she recorded a double-bagel win (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 1 slot. Hinton clinched the team match with a hard fought 6-1, 6-3 victory at the third position. It was her first match of the season at that spot.
Azusa Pacific continued to pile up wins as Baumgartnere notched a 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 win at the No. 2 spot for the sixth team point. Another three-setter went the Cougars way as April Wong won 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 at the fourth position.
Jackie Resler won her eighth contest of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the No. 5 slot.
Hawai'i Hilo got the win at the No. 6 slot when Gabriela Aguliar Law won their first set but trailed in the second frame before getting a victory via her opponent retiring.
