LAS VEGAS – Facing a stiff neutral site test, the Cougars continued to build on their outstanding start to the season.
Azusa Pacific won their 15th straight with a 7-2 win against No. 20 Midwestern State (Texas) on Friday afternoon.
The sixth-ranked Cougars are off to their best start to a season since 2004 as they posted their sixth win against a nationally ranked foe this season.
DOUBLES: Azusa Pacific walked away with a pair of wins as all three matches were decided by an 8-5 score.
Oliver Frank and Christian Schmid continued their impressive run with their 11th straight win at the No. 1 doubles slot. The duo of Jakob Schnaitter and Antonio Pejic equaled that mark as the second position.
Midwestern State kept things interesting with the win at the No. 3 contest.
SINGLES: All six contests were decided in straight sets.
Ronald Kang won the first match of their courts with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 4 position. A Christian Schmid 6-3, 6-4 win at the second spot moved Azusa Pacific within one win of deciding the team match. Ryan Nuno gave the Cougars that victory by winning each set by a 6-4 count.
Alan Leahy won the next completed contest with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the sixth slot. Azusa Pacific's final win came from Oliver Frank (6-2, 7-6). It was Frank's 10th win of the season at the No. 1 position.
The only downside for the Cougars came when Schnaitter dropped his first match of the season.
