AZUSA, Calif. – In the NCAA era, no women's tennis team has done it faster
With the 7-0 victory against Colorado Mesa on Tuesday afternoon, the Cougars won their 10th match of the season in 12 attempts. In the five seasons Azusa Pacific has played in the NCAA, they have not won 10 matches this quickly.
The ninth-ranked Cougars have won four straight moving their record to 10-2. The Cougars were fairly dominate all the way around in the shutout. The last two singles matches weren't able to finish because of rain showers that rolled into the area.
DOUBLES: Azusa Pacific got off to a strong straight by winning the three contest in strong fashion. Courtney Page and Mikayla Rinker barely broke a sweat in winning their 10th match together. The tandem dropped just one game at the No. 3 slot.
Toby Miclat and Kara Hinton pulled away in the ladder stages for an 8-3 victory in the second spot. Diana Baumgartnere and Petra Ivankovic battled for their win at the top position. Tightly played early, the tandem won three of the last four games to secure the positive results (8-5).
SINGLES: Hinton scored the first win for the Cougars with a 6-2, 6-0 win the fourth position. Ivankovic dropped just one (6-0, 6-1) in sealing the team victory with her win at the No. 2 slot.
Baumgartnere was slightly challenged early before coming away with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position. Miclat fell in the first set but rebounded nicely for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 win at the top spot.
Rinker and Page both won their first sets but couldn't complete their match because of rain.
UP NEXT: The Cougars travel to Las Vegas on Friday for a neutral site match with Midwestern State.
