AZUSA, Calif. – Over the last four matches the Cougars have shown why they have undefeated.
Azusa Pacific posted a 7-0 win against Colorado Mesa on Tuesday and a breezy then rainy Tuesday afternoon in the foothills.
Over their last four matches the Cougars have lost just four total individuals contest between doubles and singles play. Moreover, they have either shutout the opponent or lost just one contest in every match this month. Azusa Pacific, the sixth ranked team in the nation, is 13-0.
DOUBLES: It was mostly back-and-forth during the early stages in each contests before the Cougars prevailed. Oliver Frank and Christian Schmid continued their strong play with their ninth straight win (8-3) at the No. 1 position. Jesse Haas and Ryan Nuno won their fifth straight by the same score at the No. 3 slot.
Jakob Schnaitter and Antonio Pejic had to fight back from an early deficit in the second spot. Down by a 4-1 count, they rallied to win seven of the last eight games to secure the squad's three point lead in the team contest.
SINGLES: Although the final two matches on the courts weren't able to finish because of rain showers, the Cougars were able to clinch the match convincingly in the top four spots.
Schmid completed his straight sets (6-2, 6-2) victory first at the second spot then Frank followed that moments later with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph.
Pejic and Alan Leahy walked off the courts in straight sets as well at the No. 4 and No. 3 contests respectively. Pejic tallied a 6-2, 6-2 win while Leahy's tally was 6-3, 6-0.
Dillon Barnard and Marnix Pluim each won their first sets before the rains came.
UP NEXT: The Cougars hosts Emory tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The Atlanta based school is the top team in NCAA Division III. They recently won the ITA Indoor National title.
