IRVINE, Calif. – Victories continue to come the Cougars way no matter how the line-up is mixed-and-matched.
The Azusa Pacific men's tennis won their sixth straight to start the season with a 7-2 victory against Concordia on Thursday afternoon.
While the No. 6 Cougars kept some of their players in their regular positions, they went away from the norm in a few places.
DOUBLES: At the top two slots, the Cougars were dominate. Oliver Frank and Christian Schmid kept their success at the No. 1 spot going with an 8-1 victory. In the second position Antonio Pejic and Jakob Schnaitter won their fourth contest together with an 8-2 win.
Playing just their second match together at the No. 3 slot, Dillon Barnard and Roberto Luconi fell in hard fought 8-6 contest.
SINGLES: All good things must come to an end as the Cougars dropped their first singles match of the season. Otherwise everything went successfully.
Frank notched a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top position to remain undefeated all-time in dual matches in his two season at Azusa Pacific. Schmid remained undefeated in his four matches at the No. 2 slot with a 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 victory at the second position.
Ronald Kang moved to 6-0 with a straight sets win (6-4, 6-3) at the third slot. The only setback the Cougars had came at the No. 4 slot as Ryan Nuno fell in three sets. For Kang it was just his second match at that position while Nuno has played three in the fourth spot.
Alan Leahy won his three-set match (6-3, 2-6, 6-2) at the No. 5 slot while Jesse Haas won his second ever collegiate singles match with a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
