LA MIRADA, Calif. – Not exactly the ideal conditions for tennis match against your rivals but Azusa Pacific is feeling just fine.
Amid chilly temperatures for southern California and winds that could dictate play more than anyone's forehand or backhand, the Cougars cruised to a 9-0 victory against Biola on Monday afternoon.
The victory is the fifth straight for the No. 23 Cougars who's only blemish this season is a campaign's first match.
DOUBLES: The No. 2 tandem of Kara Hinton and Toby Miclat remained undefeated together as they didn't drop a game in their victory. Mikayla Rinker and Courtney Page raced out to a 7-0 lead at the No. 3 spot before recording an 8-3 win.
Diana Baumgartnere and Petra Ivankovic battled for an 8-4 triumph at the top spot for their third together while playing at the No. 1 slot.
SINGLES: Everything moved along in fine fashion as the Cougars lost just one set during the six singles matches.
April Wong posted her first win of the season while playing at the No. 3 slot as she posted a double bagel victory for the team's forth point. Rinker clinched the match with a breadstick and bagel win (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 5 position
The matches continued to roll off the courts successfully for Azusa Pacific. Courtney Page won her first collegiate singles contest with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the sixth spot then Kara Hinton posted her straight set win (6-3, 6-1) in her first collegiate match at the No. 2 slot.
Taitiana Betancourt also pulled off a career first as she played, and won, her first match at the No. 4 slot. The junior notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Diana Baumgartnere made the shutout complete with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 win at the No. 1 match.
CORNERSTONE CUP: The victory, which is the only regular season contest between the schools, gives the Azusa Pacific athletic department a 50-45 edge in the year-long Cornerstone Cup series.
