AZUSA, Calif. – Another important early season west region contest; another win.
Azusa Pacific posted an impressive 8-1 win against No. 15 Cal State L.A. on Monday afternoon.
The 23rd ranked Cougars have now won four straight after a season opening set back. Three of those wins have come against fellow region foes.
DOUBLES: After winning one in convincing fashion, the Cougars took a pair of tightly contested matches in taking a commanding lead in the team match.
Courtney Page and Miayla Rinkler continued to play well as a tandem as they posted an 8-3 win at the third position. Petra Ivankovic and Diana Baumgartnere put together a hard fought win at the No. 1 slot. The duo won their second match together by an 8-6 count.
As tight as that match was, the No. 2 contest proved to be a nail biter and critical momentum victory for Azusa Pacific. Toby Miclat and Kara Hinton remained undefeated as a tandem with a 9-8 (7-2) triumph in their fourth match together.
SINGLES: Azusa Pacific took five of the six matches in straight sets to secure their dominating win.
Rinkler was the first player off the courts as she didn't dropped a game in her match at the sixth position. Jackie Resler put the team match into the Cougars win column with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 position.
Miclat continued her dominance in her only season with the Cougars. She beat her second nationally ranked opponent this season with a 6-4, 6-2 at the top spot. Ivankovic (6-3, 7-5) and Taitiana Betancourt (6-3, 6-2) rounded out the Azusa Pacific wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 matches.
