TUCSON, Ariz. – The Cougars made themselves at home quite comfortably in the desert air of Arizona.
In their final of three games at the Tucson Invitational, Azusa Pacific used an 18-hit effort to post a 13-3 win against No. 14 St. Cloud State on Saturday.
The win wraps-up the event for the Cougars with a 3-0 record in three days. The victory is the squads 12th straight as they up their record to 13-1 heading into PacWest conference play next week against Fresno Pacific.
During the win against the Huskies a host of players racked-up multi-hit games led by Adrian Tovalin's 4-for-5 day. The third baseman drove-in three and crossed the plate twice in the triumph. Sean Aspinall put together a fine contest with three hits and three RBI.
A host of players tallied two hits as Mychael Goudreau, Cam Bennett, Justin Gomez, Michael Staudinger and Quincy Quintero all contributed to the big win.
Azusa Pacific, entering the game ranked seventh in the nation, jumped out to a 6-0 lead after scoring three runs in the second and third innings respectively. After the Huskies scored their first run in the top of the fourth, Azusa Pacific answered right back with a run of their own.
St. Cloud State made the game interesting with a pair of runs in the seventh to pull within 7-3. Their comeback hopes were put to the wayside as the Cougars sent 12 batters to plate in the eighth inning en route to a six-run frame to seal the win.
Kale Morton earned the win on the bump by going 6.1 innings with five strikeouts while scattering seven hits.
