AZUSA, Calif. -- For just the second time this season, Azusa Pacific men's tennis got swept in doubles, and this time the deficit was too large for the No. 2 Cougars as No. 3 UC San Diego pulled off the 5-1 upset on Monday afternoon at the Cougar Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Tritons (14-9) earn the West Region's second bid into the 16-team NCAA Division II National Championship in Denver, Colo. Meanwhile, the Cougars' season ends with a 20-5 record after the Cougars made their 20th consecutive postseason appearance.
UCSD grabbed early leads in each of the doubles sets, never letting Azusa Pacific get a foothold in any of the sets. The Tritons won the sets 8-4, 8-6, 8-5.
In singles, Alex Miaule won the first match beating Alan Leahy for the second time in a row with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph to hand UCSD a 4-0 lead.
Jan Meyer got the Cougars on the board with his 12th consecutive win, defeating Eric Tseng 6-3, 6-4. Meyer finished his senior season with a 19-1 record in singles and a career record of 84-6 which is less than 0.4% behind the all-time Cougar record for win percentage.
Horea Porutiu clinched the Triton victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Marnix Pluim at No. 5 singles, sending UCSD to its second National Championship appearance in three years.
