Cougars Fine with 11-Day Break

AZUSA, Calif. – The Cougars shook off the rust of an 11-day layoff in a big way with a 9-0 victory over San Diego Christian on Monday afternoon.

Azusa Pacific lost just a combined 15 games as they won every match in straight sets in upcoming their record to 7-3. 

Match Results

The 17th ranked Cougars began their convincing team victory by cruising in doubles play. Playing just their fourth match at the top doubles spot, Natalie Johnson and Valeriia Kashina posted an 8-2 triumph. At the No. 2 position Jackie Resler and Lindsey Yeom came away with an 8-4 victory. The doubles sweep was completed as Danae Ingwaldson and Bethany Duval dominated at the No. 3 slot 8-1. 

Johnson and Ingwaldson both won their singles matches at the No. 1 and No. 4 spots respectively with a "double bagel" (6-0, 6-0). Yeom was nearly as successful as she won with a "bagel and breadstick" (6-0, 6-1). 

Kashina topped Heather Brosos 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 match to improve her individual record to a team best 8-2. Resler notched a 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 3 position while Troxel also came away with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the final singles position. 

The Cougars will next take the court on Wednesday when they host Emory, the NCAA Division III's second ranked team.
