Match Results

The No. 13 team in the nation for NCAA Division II Azusa Pacific (4-2) has all of its first three matches 9-0 to start a nine-match home stand, which continues on Saturday morning against NAIA foe Concordia.

At No. 1 doubles, Danae Ingwaldson and Natalie Johnson were reunited as a doubles team after being separated for the last two matches. The No. 15 doubles pair in the nation raced to an 8-1 victory for the Cougars' first point of the day. Jackie Resler and Lindsey Yeom finished right after at No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 victory to improve to 3-0 as a team.

"Things are starting to click for the two of us. We've gotten to know each other's strengths and how to take advantage of them, and we are also communicating better," Resler said. "I think every match we have played together has been better than the previous and that we want to do is keep improving."

In their first match as a pair, Valeriia Kashina and Bethany Duval completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3. Duval remains perfect in her career in doubles with an 11-0 mark as a Cougar.

Ingwaldson gave the Cougars their first singles point with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Johnson quickly made the score 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, and Kashina added a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles to continue the team's fast start. Azusa Pacific is now 10-2 in the top two singles spots with Kashina and Johnson both going 5-1 to start the year.

Resler has moved up in the lineup to the No. 3 singles spot during the home stretch, and the freshman has thrived there and improved to 6-0 in her first season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over  Chelsea Smithback.

"I'm starting to get more comfortable at No. 3 now," Resler said after her third win at the position. "My style of play is that I like to make my opponents uncomfortable, but now I am starting to play people that are more aggressive. That means I can't just wait for my opponent to make a mistake, and I have had to be more aggressive, and I'm making that adjustment."

Yeom and Sierra Troxel then completed the sweep for the Cougars with straight-set singles victories. Yeom won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and Troxel earned her third win as a Cougar in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph.
