Azusa Pacific Rolls in Home Opener

Box Score AZUSA, Calif.- A well balanced effort put Azusa Pacific in the win column as they won their home opener 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-9) over Holy Names on Friday evening.

Every player who suited up for the Cougars saw playing time and nine different players recorded at least one kill in the convincing victory. Azusa Pacific never trailed at any point in the match. 

"It is important to get as many players on the court as possible. We are going have an injury at some point during the season or we may have a player struggling at some point. It's good to know we can put another player in there and keep a high level of play going," head coach Chris Keife said.

The Cougars posted a season best hitting percentage of .315 in the sweep. They had 37 kills on 92 swings while committing a season low eight attack errors.

In her home debut, Katy Crouse had a team high 11 kills. The transfer from Division I Iona tallied a kill on just under 35 percent of her swings. Mattie Shelford hit .312 for the match and notched a seven-kill effort. From her middle blocker position Crystal Dedes had five kills and hit .444.

Jaden Louie and Tristan Racich directed the offense as they had 19 and 11 assists respectively in the Cougars 6-2 offense.

"We managed the match well and made good decisions on the court," Keife said. "We did a good job letting the match come to us and taking care of business."
