Rolling In The Sweep

AZUSA, Calif.-- For the first time this season the Azusa Pacific women's tennis team posted a sweep, improving to 4-0 on the year with a 9-0 win against Concordia on Monday afternoon at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex. The Cougars opened the day with five straight-set wins in singles, and won each of their doubles matches 8-1 to tab their third 4-0 start in the past three years.

Emily Harris and Natalie Johnson each kept their perfect records intact, while Bethany Duval logged her first victory of the season. After Harris notched a smooth 6-0, 6-0 win over Summer Beaird at No. 1, Duval put the Cougars ahead 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Kristin Lampe at No. 6.

Lindsey Yeom beat No. 41 ranked Ellie Johnson 6-0, 6-1 in the four spot, and Stephanie Quan recorded a 6-3, 6-1 sweep of Caitlyn Uzzi at No. 5. A 6-4, 6-2 win from Natalie Johnson against No. 25 ranked Mona Piller at No. 2 put Azusa Pacific ahead 5-0 before Danae Ingwaldson registered a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 come-from-behind victory against 29h ranked Ulrike Hahn. 

In doubles action the 20th ranked team of Harris and Ingwaldson closed the day with an 8-1 win at No. 1 against 15th ranked Hahn/Piller, while Yeom and Quan posted an 8-1 win at No. 3. Kim Koetterheinrich and Johnson also notched an 8-1 win, defeating Beaird/Johnson at No. 2. 

The Cougars will now go on the road for a weekend trip to Glendale, Ariz., where they'll take on Western New Mexico and Sonoma State on Friday and Saturday.
