SAN DIEGO, Calif-- The Azusa Pacific women's tennis team found itself on the wrong end of a pair of three-set matches to fall to UC San Diego 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.  The Cougars went 2-4 in singles play, and dropped two tough matches at No. 4 and No. 5 in the team's second match of the season.

The Tritons (1-0) got three-set victories when Paula Chou defeated Lindsey Yeom 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, and Tara Vanooteghem beat Stephanie Quan 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.  Brejohn McCrary recorded a three-set win of her own at No. 3, notching a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 defeat of Melinda Chu.  

Junior Emily Harris improved to 2-0 at No. 1 on the year, having no trouble in a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Melissa Breisacher to extend her singles winning streak to 16 matches.  Sophomore Danae Ingwaldson fell to Kyra Scott at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1), and Bethany Duval lost at No. 6 to Jacquelyn Davis (6-1, 6-4).  

The Cougars went 1-2 in doubles action, getting a narrow win at No. 1 after Harris and Ingwaldson held on for a 9-8 victory against Breisacher and Scott. Kim Koetterheinrich had her 19-match doubles winning streak snapped at No. 3, falling to Chu and Vanooteghem, while Samantha Kaneta and McCrary lost 8-3 at No. 2 to Chou and Davis.

Azusa Pacific (1-1) will return to action next weekend when it travels to Phoenix to compete in the Grand Canyon Invite.  Azusa Pacific will face Montana State-Billings and Chaminade (Hawai'i) on Friday, before taking on Sonoma State and Metro State (Colo.) on Saturday.
