AZUSA, Calif. -- Taking advantage of its first full lineup in over a month, the NAIA's No.4-ranked Azusa Pacific rolled to a 8-1 victory over Biola Tuesday afternoon in its final home match at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. The Cougars tallied 9 set shutouts of the 15 sets played in the dual match, including a pair of 8-0 scores in doubles play.

Sophomore Sheryl Bon partnered with senior Katy Jelsma for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles, and freshman tandem Emily Ignas and Natalie McNall followed with another 8-0 tally at No. 3.

For the first time ever in their collegiate careers, Azusa Pacific's Marie Tanaka played head-to-head against her twin sister Joelle, with the Hawaiian natives squaring off in the No. 1 doubles match. Biola established an early 4-1 advantage, but Azusa Pacific responded by collecting the next 12-of-15 points to tie the match at 4-4. The Eagles closed the match with an 8-5 score, taking the last pair of games in the deuce stage.

Azusa Pacific swept the singles docket for the fourth time this season, limiting the Eagles to a combined total of 7 games in 6 matches. Casey Wetzig and Bon came back to the singles lineup after being sidelined due to injuries for the last month. The sophomores conducted their returns in similar fashion, as they both only needed to tally 50 points to clinch their matches. Bon took a 6-0, 6-1 decision in 70 points at No. 4, while Wetzig collected a 6-0, 6-0 win in 68 points at No. 5.

The rest of the lineup completed the singles sweep with straight-set results: a 6-3, 6-1 victory for Ignas at No. 1, a 6-0, 6-0 win for Leah Hoffee at No. 2, a 6-0, 6-1 triumph for McNall at No, 3, and a 6-1, 6-0 score for Marie Tanaka at No. 6.

With the win, Azusa Pacific wraps up the regular season at 14-8 overall, 13-5 in GSAC, while Biola concludes its season at 5-16 overall, 2-16 in GSAC. The Cougars will receive an at-large bid to the upcoming NAIA Tournament, which will be held May 12-16 in Mobile, Ala.
