LA MIRADA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific won all 6 singles matches in straight sets and posted a perfect 9-0 sweep over Biola for the Cougars' fifth straight road win Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Jessalyn Lau and freshman Leah Hoffee combined to account for 4 of Azusa Pacific's 9 dual match points. Each was part of a doubles tandem that posted an 8-0 win, and Hoffee claimed every game at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Lau nearly matched the feat but dropped just 1 game at No. 6, following up her 8-0 No. 3 doubles win with a 6-0, 6-1 No. 6 singles victory.
Freshman Emily Ignas outlasted Biola's Christine Garner in the opening set at No. 2 singles, 7-5, before finishing off the match with a 6-1 second-set victory. That was the closest call for a Cougar squad that won its 9 matches by a combined games margin of 97-20, a spread that included a 24-4 combined doubles score.
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 7-2 overall, 7-1 GSAC, while Biola drops to 1-8 overall, 0-8 GSAC. The Cougars are on the road to visit a third straight conference foe with a Saturday, March 14 visit to Concordia that will wrap up the first half of the 18-match conference schedule.
