FRESNO, Calif. -- Sophomores Katy Jelsma and Lindsey Cloninger earned the only points for the NAIA's No. 6-ranked Azusa Pacific in a 7-2 defeat to No. 2-ranked Fresno Pacific Monday afternoon in Fresno.

After dropping the first set to Amandine Ferot at No. 5 singles, 6-2, then trailing 5-2 in the second set, Jelsma came storming back for a 7-6 win to force a third set. Ferot grabbed a quick 5-1 lead, but Jelsma repeated her comeback efforts from the second set with another 7-6 win in the third set to seal the victory.

Jelsma and Cloninger teamed up to provide the Cougars' lone point in doubles, knocking off Ferot and Megan Hanner at No. 3 doubles, 8-6.

With the defeat, Azusa Pacific drops to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in GSAC play, while Fresno Pacific improves to 6-0 overall, 2-0 in GSAC. The Cougars return home for a pair of GSAC matches, taking on Westmont Saturday, Feb. 24 at 9 a.m., followed by a 2:30 p.m. Tuesday matchup with Hope International. Both matches will be played at Azusa Pacific's home courts located at Citrus College in Glendora.
