AZUSA, Calif. -- For the first time in nearly 2 months Azusa Pacific took to the court to hone its play against a non-conference opponent while taking a reprieve from conference foes.
In the end, the University of Hawaii at Hilo dealt the Cougars just their second home defeat this season winning 5-3 as rain halted play of the final singles match.
Kim Tran was the lone player to post a singles win as she beat Wendy Owen, 7-6, 7-6.
After dropping 2 of the 3 doubles matches, the Vulcans stormed back with strong singles play. They won 4 singles matches to send Azusa Pacific to its first home loss since March 2.
The Cougars dropped to 12-4 and will host Wofford (S.C.) on Tuesday before finishing the conference campaign.
