Volleyball Stuns Biola

LA MIRADA, Calif. -- Earlier in the day, Biola climbed into the NAIA's Top 10 moving from No. 13 to 10, but tonight in La Mirada, it was Azusa Pacific that played like the top 10 team as the Cougars made quick work of the Eagles, 30-19, 30-22, 30-26, for their fourth straight win and ninth in the past 11 matches.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 12-5 overall, 5-2 GSAC and stays in a third place tie with California Baptist, which defeated Vanguard tonight. Biola drops to 12-4, 4-3.

With an effective service game and a solid defensive effort, the Cougars were able to build substantial leads in each game.

"We've been working on our serving lately and it proved to be the difference tonight," said Azusa Pacific head coach Chris Keife. "It felt good to get this win. We're starting to gel and click as a team, and everyone is beginning to understand their role and what needs to be done to win."

The Cougars finished with 15 service aces and out-dug the Eagles, 59-45. Three Cougars reached double-figures in kills, led by Colleen Walker's 12. Jenny Brickner and Chelsea Morgan continued to provide a big lift from the middle as both recorded 10 kills apiece.

Alison Pattison notched a match-high 22 digs, and she added 5 aces. Katrina Anker had 19 digs, and Courtney Fox added match-high 6 aces.
