San Diego, Calif. -- The mountain is still too steep to climb.

In a test of its talent and place in the NAIA's premier tennis conference, Azusa Pacific discovered today that their challenge remains significant after falling to Point Loma Nazarene, 7-2, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.

The Cougars were handled at nearly every spot, collecting only one point in singles play and one in doubles, while the Sea Lions roared through with a trio of straight-set wins in singles and bouncing back from 1-set deficits to win the another two singles matches.

"The match was a lot closer than the score would indicate," said Cougar Head Coach Mark Bohren. "The ladies really fought hard, and there are some things to be encouraged about as we move forward through the season."

Point Loma and Vanguard have reigned supreme in the GSAC for some time but Azusa Pacific has been knocking on the door to place itself also among the elite of the conference. Today's setback, while disappointing, indicates the strides the program has made in just 5 years of existence.
