Azusa, Calif. -- Needing a bounce-back victory before taking a distant trip, Azusa Pacific got just what it needed with a 9-0 GSAC win over Hope International Thursday afternoon at Center Courts.
The Cougars skated through singles, winning 72 of 76 games with eight 6-0 set victories. Freshman Raquel Gottfried put together the best showing on her young career, sweeping McKenna Hamel, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, and then team3d with Peggy Bell to win 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. Likewise, Bay Daniels swept 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and combined with Katy Jelsma for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
The victory, while the Cougars' fourth straight in GSAC play, takes the edge off a nonconference setback suffered in the last match against Hawaii-Hilo. The Cougars now set their sights on next week's trip to Hawaii.
With the victory, the Cougars improve to 13-4 overall, 11-3 in the GSAC.
